Phils Win Series Against Texas

Today the Phillies wasted a great outing from Roy Oswalt and got shutout in the series finale by a final of 2-0. Oswalt pitched 7 innings and only surrendered 1 run. But with a non existent offense, he unfortunately suffered his first career loss at Citizens Bank Park. For the Rangers Matt Harrison was just a little better pitching 8.1 scoreless innings. The Phils got a base runner in the 9th against Neftali Feliz but Raul Ibanez and Ross Gload grounded out and flew out to end the game in a 2-0 defeat.

The Phils were able to win the series on Saturday night behind an outstanding pitching performance from Cliff Lee against his former team. Lee pitched 8 scoreless frames and Madson picked up his 9th save as the Phils won by a final of 2-0. Offensively Howard hit a solo homerun in the 2nd and John Maybery Jr. hit an rbi single in the 6th and that was all they would need. Lee was cruising and Madson came in and threw his 9th inning cheese once again to hang on to the tight victory.

Although the Phils bats didn't show up today and the Phils were unable to sweep, I'm sick and tired of hearing everyone complain about this Phillies offense. First off the Phils are without Shane Victorino and Chase Utley two critical members of their offense and Ben Francisco is slowly proving to be no Jayson Werth. But despite the offensive struggles they are still winning. They are winning even when they are in an offensive drought which is the true mark of a great team. Hopefully when Utley returns tomorrow this offense will recieve a jolt and I won't have to listen to all of these ill-informed front running Phillies fans whine and complain about how the Phillies aren't hitting homeruns. Please get a clue. Once the Phillies are 5 games back in the division maybe then we can talk about this offense.

Until then we just have to ride this slump out and watch this brilliant pitching staff carry this team. This past weekend Halladay and Lee did exactly that. They came in and stopped the bleeding by going deep into games and giving the Phillies a great chance to win. Looking ahead the Phillies will open up a 4 game set against the Reds tomorrow in what will hopefully be Chase Utley's 2011 debut.
