Phils Sweep Werth Out Of Town

I kind of feel bad for Nationals starter John Lannan. You would think that being in the same division sooner or later he would beat the Phillies. But tonight the Philliess blasted Lannan for 6 runs and Lannan is now 0-10 in his career against the Phils. Lannan was unable to get out of the third after giving up a 2 run homer to Shane Victorino, a RBI double to John Mayberry, and a 2 run double to Rauuuul Ibanez who is starting to feel it at the plate.

On the mound Halladay was dominant once again. Halladay gave up 2 runs in the top of the 4th but finished the game with a strong line of 7 innings pitched and 10 strike outs. Ibanez added a moon shot home run in the 5th that found its' place in the upper deck seats to give the Phils a 7-2 lead. Bastardo gave up a run in the 8th and the Phils went on to win 7-3.

Prior to tonight's victory, the Phils won on Wednesday thanks to another great outing from Vance Worley. Worley pitched 6 innings and gave up 1 run off 4 hits. The young pitcher is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA and is proving to be a solid option if any other starter goes down.

And just like Friday night's 10 run game the Phils again provided Worley with a ton of run support. Raul Ibanez got things started off with a solo home run in the 5th. The Phils then tacked on 2 more runs in the inning to give Worley a comfortable 3 run lead. After giving up a run in the top of the sixth the Phils offense generated 4 runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to win by a final of 7-4.

The Phillies are now 21-9 and pretty close to my 20-7 PREDICTION that I made back in March. You have to love what the Phillies are doing. They have the best record in the National League and they are doing this all in the absence of key guys like Brad Lidge and Chase Utley. Can you imagine how dangerous this Phillies line up will be with a healthy Utley? It's almost scary to think about especially after their offensive explosion tonight. The Phils even though they have had games where they don't produce a whole lot of runs still have that potential to have that monster break out inning. The Phillies will welcome the Atlanta Braves to town for a weekend series beginning tomorrow night.
