The Philadelphia Phillies disabled list is starting to clear up and now Jose Contreras is expected to be activated either today or tomorrow. Contreras pitched in his final minor league game yesterday recording 2.0 innings on 20 pitches.
The Phillies are expected to activate Contreras sometime over the next two days all depending on if he is ready to pitch in back to back games. After pitching yesterday it seems more likely that the Phillies will give Contreras the day off today and activate him on Thursday. He was at Citizens Bank Park last night and is waiting to be activated.
With Ryan Madson locking down the closer job, Contreras will be asked to pitch in the setup role. Look for him to see time in the 7th and 8th innings a spot that Contreras pitched very well in last year. The bullpen has been solid this year and with Contreras coming back the bullpen can hopefully continue their success.
