Tonight Jayson Werth will make his highly anticipated return to Philadelphia. During the past off season Werth rejected the Phillies offer of 66 million over 4 years and instead chose to go to Washington for the big money. Phillies fans will sure to voice their feelings about Werth during the upcoming series.
Phils Last Series
Vance Worley made a spot start on Friday night and pitched 6 scoreless innings. The Phils bats scored 10 runs and the Phillies routed the Mets 10-3. Saturday was a pitching duel between Jon Niese and Roy Halladay. Halladay went the distance and the Phils scored just enough to edge out a close 2-1 victory. On Sunday the Phils failed to capitalize on a strong outing from Cliff Lee and eventually lost in 14 innings by a final of 2-1.
Nationals Last Series
The Nats took 3 out of 4 from the San Francisco Giants and only allowed 4 runs pitching 2 shutouts on Friday and Monday. The Nats didn't score a whole ton of runs against the Giants but they did get solid outings from all their starters. Impressively the Nats scored 3 runs off Tim Lincecum and won the game by a final of 3-0.
What To Look For
The Phillies need to be more consistent at the plate. After Friday night's 10 run explosion the Phils managed just 3 runs on Saturday and Sunday. The Phils need to do a better job of consistently scoring and supporting their starters. Jayson Werth is hitting .233 this year and it will be interesting to see if his struggles continue in this series.
