But Shaner is scheduled to return on Tuesday against the Cubs, so who will be the odd man out once Victorino returns?
First the numbers. Domonic Brown is currently hitting .252 with 5 HR and 16 RBI's. But in his last 10 games Brown has risen his average from .208 to .252 and has a homer and 5 RBI's during that time. Brown is starting to heat up and with the trade dead line approaching the Phils may want to showcase the youngster if they intend to move him.
John Mayberry is currently hitting .244 with 5 HR and 19 RBI's. But like Brown in his last 13 games Mayberry has 3 HR and 9 RBI's and has risen his average from .219 to .244. Mayberry is also a right-handed bat which gives him an advantage over Brown.
Right now it's really too close to call. Both players are swinging a hot bat and the Phils want to showcase them to other teams with the trade deadline fast approaching. In all likelihood the Phils will probably go with a platoon in right field with Mayberry and Brown.
With the trade rumors already beginning to swirl around the Phils interest in Heath Bell and other San Diego relievers, either Brown or Mayberry may be a goner by the end of the month. But for now enjoy the Brown and Mayberry show as they are two young players with very bright futures.
