Flyers Fall To Rangers

Friday night's Flyers Rangers game was a pretty peculiar game to say the least.  After a scoreless first period, Derek Stepan deflected a goal past Bryzgalov to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  Shortly there after, Ruslan Fedotenko scored on a weird goal that popped in the net, and the puck immediately deflected out making it look like it hit off the top cross bar.  But upon review, the goal was confirmed, and the Rangers had a comfortable 2-0 lead thanks to some weird goals.

In the third, the Flyers got goals from JVR and Meszaros but it wouldn't be enough as the Rangers went on to win by a final of 4-2.  Even though the Flyers lost to the hated Rangers, you really can't get too mad.  After last Saturday's embarrassing 6-0 defeat to the Boston Bruins, the Flyers responded well this week.  They brought Monday's game against the Avalanche to a shootout, and they got a big 4-1 win on Wednesday night against the Dallas Stars, totaling 3 points on the week.

Unfortunately the Flyers will have to let this loss burn for a little as they will not play again until December 27th against the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Amazingly enough, the Flyers only have 2 more games until the Winter Classic, one in Tampa and one in Pittsburgh against the Penguins.  Both games should be interesting match ups and should also prepare the Flyers for their important game against the Rangers on January 2nd at Citizens Bank Park.

As for the Winter Classic, preparation is officially underway.  While NHL officials have been building up the rink for quite some time now, today they officially began work on the ice.  20,000 gallons of water were needed to fill the rink, and it's a matter of mother nature as well as other forms of technology to help keep her cool.  It's amazing to think that the Flyers and Rangers will be facing off where Utley and Rollins turn double plays.  It's going to be exciting and I'm glad that it's only a little over a week away.  So while the Flyers may have lost to the Rangers tonight, they will surely have a chance for revenge come January 2nd.
