Vick Needs To Play More Conservative

Picking up that extra yard is not worth it. Putting yourself in harm’s way just to pick up that first down is definitely not worth it. Getting injured instead of sliding or running out of bounds is not the smart option.

This season Vick needs to play a more conservative style instead of aggressively seeking that extra yard or two. The Eagles can’t afford to lose Vick as he is the key to their offense. If Vick goes down especially early in the season, there is no telling how good Vince Young will be given the fact that he is new to this offense.

The depth the Eagles have at offensive line should give Vick all the time he needs to sit back in the pocket and make smart throws. It’s what Vick does when he is out of the pocket that has me worried. Too many times last year Vick put himself in harm’s way for the sake of that extra yard. I’m not saying that Vick shouldn’t play as hard but he should be smarter in some of the decisions he makes.

Overall Mike Vick is the key to the Eagles success. He forces teams to defend the Eagles differently and has the ability to crack a game open with just the flick of a wrist. He can turn a completely broken play into a touchdown with ease. But if he continues to play like the old overly aggressive Mike Vick he will hurt his and the team’s future.

Remember Vick was applied the franchise tag before the beginning of this year and is still seeking a big contract. But if he shows that he is injury prone again this season, the Eagles may be hesitant to sign a guy who is liable to get hurt to a mega deal.

Vick needs to learn how to play smart, and to be aggressive while still remaining healthy. A lot of his fellow team mates and NFL players would love to see Vick begin sliding because he is such a treat to watch week after week. And as an Eagles fan I hope Vick learns to play smart and not put himself in danger on a consistent basis.
