Meet Donald Lee

To start off, this article doesn't even compare to the excitement of the Mike Vick posting I made earlier. But for you die-hard Eagles fans that just can't get enough, continue reading about one of the Eagles' best free agent signings.

One Eagles free agent signee that is going somewhat under the radar is the signing of former Green Bay Packers tight end Donald Lee. While Vince Young, Ronnie Brown, DRC and Nnamdi Asomugha soak up all the attention, Lee is quietly working hard and competing for playing time.

Lee played 2 seasons for the Dolphins and 6 for the Packers and did the little things to help his team win. He was a favorite target of Brett Favre and he specialiazed in catches in the redzone and also moved into a role as a blocking tight end last season. Lee is willing to do what ever he can to contribute and is a true team player in every sense.

He will quietly work hard and while he is not going to draw the attention of a guy like Ronnie Brown or Vince Young, he has the talent to really help the Eagles this season.

With a broken offensive line, last year Brent Celek shifted into a blocking tight end. Celek had a bit of down year compared to his breakout 2009. While I’m expecting the offensive line to eventually work itself out, having a veteran like Donald Lee will give the Birds depth in terms of protection.

Lee can teach Celek and Clay Harbor who are both still relatively young, the importance of being an all around great tight end. He can stress the importance of being a reliable target in the passing game, and a steady blocker when the team needs him.

Like I said before the Donald Lee signing is not major news but it is still something that people should be aware of. He is a winner and a true team player and a guy that is valuable on the field and in the clubhouse.
