Evan Turner Working With Herb Magee

As the NBA lockout continues to take it’s chokehold on basketball, players everywhere are looking for ways to stay in basketball shape. Some are going over seas while others are working out or just practicing.

Evan Turner, in an effort to improve his game during the lockout is working with Philadelphia University’s basketball coach Herb Magee. Herb Magee is an expert shooting coach and he will be working with Turner throughout the lockout to help improve his jumper.

One of the strengths of Turner’s game is getting into the lane and driving to the basket. He is great at ball handling and getting easy high percentage shots but he does struggle with his jumper. If Turner can become a threat from outside and beyond the arc, it will open up the rest of his game. Defenders will be forced to take his shot seriously, and Evan will be able to either knock an open shot down or give a quick shot fake and drive to the hoop.

Turner started playing a lot better towards the end of last year. He had a great game in Game 4 against the Heat and overall showed tremendous upside. But there are still a lot of things he needs to do to improve his game and it is good to see that he is committed to improving.

Hopefully his strong work ethic and commitment to winning will rub off on the other players on the Sixers as the lockout continues.
