Manuel Signs Extension
He has led the Phillies to 4 consecutive division titles, 3 NLCS appearances, 2 Pennants and 1 World Series Championship and today Charlie Manuel finally signed a new 2 year extension with the Philadelphia Phillies. Although it is technically a 2 year extension, the terms of this year's contract were re-worked and now Charlie is signed through the 2012 season. Charlie will reportedly be making between 3.5 to 4 million for this year and next year. When you think about all of the things Charlie Manuel has done for this city it would seem like a no-brainer to sign Charlie long term. But off season negotiations between the Phils and Charlie were extremely slow, and many questioned if the Phils were willing to pay Charlie the big bucks. But after today, Charlie is here to stay and I am extremely happy with the news. Charlie is not only a favorite among the fans and players, but he more importantly brought this city a long awaited championship. Charlie continues to win year after year, and he will continue to lead this team in the right direction. With all the distractions surrounding the team injury wise this spring, I am glad that this will no longer be a topic of conversation. Now the players and all the coaches don't have to worry about the contract status of their skipper because the deal is done. I'm glad the Phils were willing to pay Charlie the money that he deserves, and I think that this is something that will benefit the team and the entire organization in the end. Although Charlie may make some questionable calls at times he is ultimately the guy who won us a championship, and the guy who has the best shot at bringing this city another World Series title.
