Flyers Drop Third Straight
When you haven't lost 3 straight games since early December, naturally people are going to begin to worry. Today the Flyers dropped their 3rd straight losing to the Buffalo Sabres by a final of 5-3. Early on it looked like the Flyers were going to get back on track as they put together a 2-0 lead after the first period. The Flyers came out with a lot of energy and played with a lot of excitement and it almost seemed like they were going to run away with it. But in the 2nd period the Sabres came back and eventually took a 3-2 lead late in the 2nd period stunning everyone at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers responded quickly with a short handed goal from Kimmo Timonen to make it a 3-3 game going into the 3rd period. In the 3rd the Flyers looked sloppy and disinterested. The Flyers got lazy defensively, and the Sabres took a 4-3 lead crashing the net and then sealed the victory with a late game empty netter. Right now the Flyers need to get it together. They are coasting in these final games and looking forward to the playoffs instead of finishing off the regular season strong. Although the Flyers remain in first place in the eastern conference, they can't fall backwards into the playoffs. They need to play hard and carry that momentum with them into the post season. Looking ahead to next week, the Flyers will have many chances to get back on track. The Flyers will play 4 games next week against the Rangers, Oilers, Maple Leafs and Thrashers. Peter Laviolette is a good coach and hopefully he can turn this around as we head into the final month of the regular season.
