Phils Bounce Back
After Tuesday's disappointing 7-1 loss, the Phils bounced back tonight with a 10-7 victory over the New York Mets. The offense did a lot of the work, producing 10 runs and overcoming Joe Blanton's disappointing performance. Blanton went 4.1 innings, giving up 7 runs on 10 hits. Blanton did a good job early on as he maintained a shutout through the third inning. Blanton continued to pitch a solid game giving up only 2 in the 4th, but then imploded in the 5th, giving up 5 runs. Blanton left the game in the 5th, replaced by Antonio Bastardo. Luckily the offense had Joe's back. The offensive attack was led by Ryan Howard who went 4-4 with 2 doubles and a homerun. Placido Polanco also had a big night, going 3-5 with 3 RBI's. The offense was able to hold off the Mets who were able to tie the game after their big 5th inning. But in the bottom of the 5th, the Phils picked up 2 runs, and later picked up an insurance run in the 6th to secure the 10-7 victory. The Phils bullpen did an excellent job of keeping the Mets off the scoreboard. Bastardo pitched the remainder of the 5th, and the entire 6th, Romero pitched the 7th, Madson the 8th, and Contreras picked up the save by pitching a scoreless 9th. In addition to seeing a great game from the bullpen, it was also good to see the Phils offense bounce back after Tuesday's performance. The Phils will send ace Roy Halladay to the mound tomorrow afternoon to face Jon Niese in the ruber match of the series.
