Alumni Game, Celebration Of Flyers Rich Legacy

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the Flyers Rangers alumni game at Citizens Bank Park.  It truly was an awesome experience as it had something for every fan.  For the younger generation of fans, guys like Leclair, Lindros, Roenick, Recchi, and Desjardins played bringing back memories from the late 90's and early 2000's Flyers.  For the older generation, guys like Bernie Parent, Bill Barber, and Bob Clarke played bringing back the glory days of the Broad Street Bullies.

The game itself was fairly entertaining.  Bernie Parent made a couple early saves, and Lindros made a beautiful cross ice pass to John Leclair for a picture perfect goal.  There were also plenty of penalty shots that made for some more entertaining hockey.  But the coolest part about the game wasn't the game itself.  It wasn't even the fact that it was played outdoors at Citizens Bank Park.  For me, the best part about the game was realizing the great legacy of the Flyers franchise and the family atmosphere that they have among their players, coaches, and fans.

I know it sounds cliche, but there is definitely a strong family bond surrounding the Flyers organization.  There is a uniqueness about the relationship that the fans have with the players, and that is probably just one of the reasons why the Flyers are so beloved in this city.

Also one of the biggest highlights from yesterday was the dropping of the puck by Flyers owner and Chairman Ed Snider.  Snider brought the sport of hockey to Philadelphia, and loves the Flyers probably more than anyone.  Again the richness of the Flyers legacy that was celebrated yesterday was truly a unique experience.

If the energy and atmosphere was that electric for the alumni game, then I can't wait to see how much Flyers fans get amped up for the actual Winter Classic set to take place tomorrow afternoon.  Flyers fans truly are the best fans in hockey, and tomorrow will be another great celebration of this awesome Flyers organization.
