The recent twitter war between Shady McCoy and Giants defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora is probably the most interesting thing to talk about in a slow and boring NFL lockout. In case you haven't heard a couple weeks ago Shady tweeted that Osi is "Overrated n soft 3rd best d-line on his team honestly." Click [HERE] for more Umenyiora soft photos. McCoy and Umenyiora's feud has inspired me to relive some of the most memorable Philly sports feuds in recent memory.
#5 Richards vs Lavy/Prongs
This feud is a lot of speculation. According to multiple sources Richards doesn't get along with head coach Peter Laviolette and veteran leader Chris Pronger. It's not as entertaining as some of the other battles primarily because both sides have denied that there is a problem. I think that this feud is still in the early stages and could possibly escalate during the course of next season.
#4 Rollins vs Mets
"I think we are the team to beat in the NL East -- finally." Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins made that comment before the 2008 season and I think it's safe to say that he backed up his words. But the response that it got from many of the Mets made for one heated rivalry during the regular season. And the following season in response to Rollins' comment Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran stated, "So this year, to Jimmy Rollins, we are the team to beat." As you may or may not know the Mets finished the 2009 season 70-92 and fourth place in the NL East. Maybe this argument is down on the list at 4 because the Mets just stink.
#3 Shady vs Umenyiora
I'm putting the most recent feud right in the middle at number 3 because it has the chance to get even better. If Umenyiora winds up staying on the Giants it could make for some great games between the Giants and Birds and possibly more outlandish comments made by both sides. But for now we'll let this fight simmer at number 3.
#2 McNabb vs TO
This feud ended with TO doing sit-ups in his driveway and is possibly one of the most bizzare fights in Philly sports history. McNabb and TO go from being best buds one year to hating each other's guts the next year. It's really sickening for me to sit here and go into the gory details because if TO and McNabb could have put aside their differences maybe we would have Super Bowl trophy. But it was still pretty entertaining and for that it earns a number 2 spot on my list.
#1 Iverson vs Brown/Media
Ok I have to admit this feud earned the number 1 spot entirely because of the famous "practice" press conference. [WATCH HERE] Larry Brown remarked that Iverson was missing a few team practices and Iverson responded in a press conference that will go down as one of the most entertaining/bizarre comments ever made by a professional athlete.
Feuds between athletes and teams makes sports more exciting. A boring regular season game can turn into a heated battle between two opponents that down right hate each other. And on a night where there is absolutely nothing going on in the world of Philly sports, there's not a better way to spend your time then to relive some of the best Philly sports feuds of all time.
