Last week the Sixers added size by drafting Nikloa Vucevic and Lavoy Allen. By drafting two big men the Sixers realize the importance of having guys down low that can rebound and shot block. In the playoffs the Sixers got pushed around down low. Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade grabbed offensive board after offensive board and aside from Brand they didn't have any real presence under the basket.
Now the Sixers have Vucevic and Allen who are young, hungry and bursting with potential. What the Sixers need now is a big man specialist who can teach these guys how to play the game the right way. The Sixers need a guy like Patrick Ewing who knows how to play the position and has experience in coaching big men. As good as Doug Collins is in developing young talents, Collins was a point guard and having a guy who played the position could benefit the Sixers greatly.
Ewing is currently an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic and has been extremely successful in coaching Dwight Howard. Lavoly Allen and Nikloa Vucevic could really use a coach like Ewing who can teach them how to be successful at the professional level. Plus having Ewing could benefit Hawes, Speights and Brand as well. If the Sixers can't get Ewing they should still look around at getting a big man specialist. It will benefit them not only for the future but for this year as well.
