Flyers Re-Sign Carcillo
On Tuesday, the Flyers agreed to sign Dan Carcillo to a one year 1.075 million dollar contract. By signing Carcillo, the Flyers avoid arbitration and have Carcillo for at least another year. In my opinion, I really don't like the re-signing. I think that Carcillo showed glimpses of greatness last year, but ultimately was very inconsistent. Carcillo is known mostly for his fighting and off the ice antics rather than his play. I think that a guy like that is a distraction and does more damage to a hockey team than good. I also don't like the re-signing because I don't think that he fits into this Flyers offense. Having said all of that, the Flyers have him for another year and some positives about having a guy like Carcillo on your team is that he can pump your team up. Say someone on the other team makes a big hit on one of your stars like Richards or Briere. Carcillo is a guy who will come in and rough that guy up and have a few words for him which can pump up a team. I also think that as inconsistent as Carcillo was last year, he can be great. I think that being benched in the Stanley Cup Finals will be a big wake up call for Carcillo who needs to realize that he has the talent to be a very solid starter on this team.
